Dairy Sheep

East Friesian Dairy Sheep

In 2023, we discovered the wonderful and new world of dairy sheep. Dairy goats? Sure. Dairy cows? Of course. But dairy SHEEP? Awesome. In 2024 we started our dairy flock with two freshly weaned East Friesian dairy sheep ewe lambs, Ruth and Rosie. From day one their skinny little tails and big floppy ears stole our hearts.

Our Story

After Ruth and Rosie became fan favourites on the farm, we had the opportunity to purchase several matures ewes from the same breeder. Ruth and Rosie’s moms along with several others joined the flock! One big happy family.

Our farm now has over a dozen registered East Friesian Dairy Sheep, with full intentions to increase our flock size. As the flock grows, the difference from the commercial flock becomes apparent. Our dairy girls are the first ones to the gate. First ones to love on you. First ones to demand their alfalfa treats. First ones to run into the barn at the mere thought of rain that might wet their wool.

Our first introduction to sheep milk and milk products came in Spring 2025. Lambs are growing like weeds, but the ewes are producing SO.MUCH.MILK. we happily take it off of their hands. Sheep milk ice cream, butter, cheddar cheese, whatever your heart desires. You can make every dairy product with sheep milk that you can make with cows milk, but sheep come in a smaller and more manageable package.

Milk

East Friesian dairy sheep are the Holsteins of the sheep world. A well bred and well fed ewe can produce up to 400 liters of milk in a regular lactation period.

Wool

While they don’t produce the microns of a merino, East Friesians produce a fine fleece that is great for outerwear, and takes dye exceptionally well.

Meat

Due to high milk production in ewes, East Friesian lambs grow like weeds. Crossing East Friesian ewes with meat breed sires produces a meaty and fast growing lamb with a nearly unlimited milk supply to grow on.

Reservations

Our lambs are typically born in the spring and are ready for their new homes in the summer. There is often a wait list for ewe lambs. If you are interested, reach out to be added to the waitlist.
